Introducing Propsyland - Propsyland

Props, blocks, backdrops, styling kits and set builders for your creative shoots

Launching a one-stop prop shop in the middle of a worldwide pandemic and supply chain shutdown? It had the potential to be our worst idea yet.

But somehow, things worked themselves out (as they are wont to do), and we’re here on the other side of the adventure, ready to share some very exciting news!

Please allow us to introduce you (properly) to Propsyland ✨

What is Propsyland?

Propsyland was inspired by the magic and endless possibilities of Disney - plus a dash of imagination. Think of Propsyland as your prop besties and resource for all things unique shapes, blocks, coloured backdrops, styling kits, set builders, accessories and so, so much more.

We decided to launch a ton of shapes, colours and options for your perusal! As creators, we felt we’d spent enough of our own precious time searching for the *perfect* pieces and props for our shoots. It was so important to us to offer variety in colour, sizes, shapes and types, right from the beginning.

Ready for a bird’s-eye view of what Propsyland has to share? Here you go!

  • Blocks in 39 unique shapes in 6 vibrant colours
  • Scene builders (oversized blocks) that are large enough to cover an entire scene
  • A range of backdrop in stunning designs and colour variations

The inspiration behind Propsyland

FJC and burnout? We became the best of friends.

A couple of years ago, we realised that we had been overworking ourselves and losing sleep for far too long. We also (finally) acknowledged that our creativity reservoir was not endless; we couldn’t keep taking on the same number of projects, no matter how much we loved them.

With only so many hours in each day and week, and much of that spent taking care of general business needs (like marketing, accounting, customer service, the list goes on), we felt we were constantly trying to find the time to charge our creativity back up. Because we didn’t want to turn down incredible opportunities to create beautiful things, we were chronically overbooking ourselves. So, we started to ask, “what else can we do? How can we continue to create and help as many brands and creators as possible, without running ourselves ragged?”

Well, it’s no secret that we enjoy using plinths and unique backdrops in our sets - and we noticed that many creators would reach out to us to ask where we sourced our items from. Given the fact that most of our props, pieces and backdrops were either locally sourced, found after spending 10000 years digging on the internet, or handmade, we thought, “are we onto something?”

So, we took that inkling as a sign that it was time for us to go after something bigger. In the end, we created Propsyland to help empower our fellow creatives with the tools, props and resources needed to succeed.

The challenges, twists and turns

Remember when we mentioned the fact that starting a prop shop during a pandemic might have been our worst idea yet? Allow us to expand on that for just a moment.

Propsyland has been over a year in the making. Two crazy people (not naming any names, here!) in the height of a pandemic and shipping crisis decided to jump into an entirely new world of creation, production, manufacturing and shipping. At a few points, those two people (**ahem**) didn’t think it would even be possible to continue, due to the ever-increasing cost of materials and goods.

Additionally, it became ever so challenging to even get our blocks delivered. Logistically, even with just a minimum order, we knew all of our props, blocks and backdrops wouldn’t fit in our existing space. So, that brought us to another entirely new challenge: searching for a new space.

QLD happens to have the biggest shortage of rental and commercial properties, due to the current circumstances of COVID in Australia. Prices have increased dramatically, and most places were too small - but we pushed through, and found the perfect home for FJC AND Propsyland. We moved into our new space in February!

Quite honestly, it was likely a blessing in disguise that it took this long for our tiny little dream to come into fruition. We had been stuck on deciding what to name our grandiose idea for quite some time. To give you an idea, we started out with “Prop It Like It’s Hot” and “Prop That.” So, yes, we’re very grateful that we were forced to take our time to find the perfect name.

Propsyland really is cute, isn’t it?

Our Propsyland plans

While we wouldn’t want to speak out of turn and jinx anything, we’ll just say this: we have many more plans to expand FJC and Propsyland in the future!

Thank you so much for joining us on this exciting journey! We can’t wait to unveil Propsyland to each and every one of you. 🪄
