How to create a fake pool
Jesse Preston

Are you feeling the heat trying to plan a location shoot with your client thirsting for that outdoor summer vibe? Worried about navigating your lighting set up outside without the comfort of your studio?

Fear not, my fellow photographers, for we're about to turn the tide on your worries. Imagine this: with just two backdrops, you can turn any location into a poolside paradise! It sounds too good to be true, right? But trust us on this one, these backdrops are about to be your new budget-friendly secret weapons.

And here's the kicker: order before 1 PM AEST, and we'll dispatch your backdrops the same day, ensuring they arrive in time to make a splash at your shoot.  time.

So, let's get into it!

TURNING YOUR STUDIO INTO A POOLSIDE PARADISE!

1. Snagging the Perfect Backdrops.

First things first—let's talk backdrops. You'll need two essentials: one to mimic the cool, serene waters of a pool and another to replicate those sleek tiled floors. Opt for backdrops with crisp, high-res prints to ensure your illusion is top-notch - oh hey, why not check ours out here?

2: Shedding Light on the Situation

Now, let's talk lighting. This is where the magic happens. Set up your main light source to mimic that warm, golden-hour glow. Think soft, diffused shadows that mimic the gentle ripples of water. Consider adding a second light to amp up the drama and add depth to your scene.

Pro Tip: Don't forget the power of reflective surfaces! A mirror, glass or even a bounce card will help you reflect light the same way pool water reflects sun light, creating more authenticity behind your fake pool scene!

3: Adding Styling Details

To really take your fake pool scene to the next level, it's all about the details. Depending on your scene and the product, think about adding in additional props to style your scene with! We love a good mini palm tree, pool float, and maybe even a cheeky flamingo or two. Play around with placement to find that sweet spot in your composition.

4: Finishing Touches

Add those final touches that'll make your fake pool scene pop. Consider incorporating elements of movement—specifically a splash of water. We love placing an acrylic tub over the top of our pool water backdrop and filling it with water to create the real water effect! Plus remember, don't skimp on the details! Shadows, highlights, and reflections are key to pulling off a truly convincing illusion.
